Upon completion of membership application and payment of fees, members receive an official NAFAT email address and access to shared documents and resources. We will also mail our official Membership Certificate directly to your office.

Membership Process
- Register a Username and Passcode with NAFAT.org
- Submit an Application for Membership with any supporting documentation
- NAFAT will review your application and you will receive a status notification and payment instruction
- You will receive instructions for setting up your official user account and NAFAT email address
- We will mail your official membership certifiact directly to your office
- Join the conversation on our Facebook Group, receive the monthly newsletter, and begin participation in meetings and events!
Membership Tiers and Qualifications
Professional Members
Professional Membership ($60)
Individuals currently employed through medical examiner or coroner's office may apply here. This includes autopsy technicians and medical examiners, or coroners. These members are qualified to serve positions on the Board or other Committees, may submit training and educational resources, and are eligible for certification (once the certification process is established). Professional Members will have access to all site resources including shared documents such as SOPs, organization charts, etc.. The preceding examples are provided for clarity and mere possession of any of the aforementioned job titles does not automatically qualify any individual for membership.
To qualify for Professional Membership, applicants must meet the following requirements:
Individuals currently employed through medical examiner or coroner's office may apply here. This includes autopsy technicians and medical examiners, or coroners. These members are qualified to serve positions on the Board or other Committees, may submit training and educational resources, and are eligible for certification (once the certification process is established). To qualify for Professional Membership, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Employment with a Medical Examiner or Coroner's office for a minimum of one (1) consecutive year (including previous experience)
- Good Standing According to Applicant's Office Policies (i.e. no more than two (2) performance issues or write-ups within the past year)
Affiliate Members
Affiliate Membership ($30)
Individuals working in support roles within the professional field may apply here. This includes investigators, administrative staff, police officers, or other approved professional roles not directly related with forensic autopsies. These members will be able to actively participate in voting, and may serve on specialized committees or department chair positions as approved by the Executive Committee. An affiliate member will not be able to hold a position on the Executive Committee. Affiliate Members may contribute training and educational material, but will have limited access to the shared resources of the Professional Members. The preceding examples are provided for clarity and mere possession of any of the aforementioned job titles does not automatically qualify any individual for membership.
To qualify for Affiliate Membership, applicants must meet the following requirements:
Individuals working in support roles within the professional field may apply here. - Verified employment in a relevant field
Student Members
Student Membership ($15)
Individuals currently enrolled or graduated from academic programs relevant to the field with interest in pursuing a career in forensic sciences may apply here. This also includes individuals serving related internships within a professional office. Student members may access training and educational resources but will not have access to professional documents such as shared SOPs or other related material. The preceding examples are provided for clarity and mere possession of any of the aforementioned job titles does not automatically qualify any individual for membership.
To qualify for Student Membership, applicants must meet the following requirements:
Individuals currently enrolled or graduated from academic programs relevant to the field with interest in pursuing a career in forensic sciences may apply here. This also includes individuals serving related internships within a professional office. Student members may access training and educational resources but will not have access to professional documents such as shared SOPs or other related material. To qualify for Student Membership, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Currently be enrolled in an accredited academic program with good standing
or
Currently be enrolled in a verified internship program relevant to the field with good standing
and - Must submit supporting documentation such as unofficial transcripts or a letter of recommendation from the internship supervisor
