About NAFAT

The National Association of Forensic Autopsy Technicians (NAFAT)

NAFAT is a growing professional association for forensic autopsy technicians and affiliated staff to provide a network of resources for innovation, standardization, and certification of our work. The association was founded in September, 2020 by a forensic autopsy technician from the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner seeking to nourish a growing interest in workplace enrichment. Regulations, policies, and membership details will be proposed and discussed among professional members and official members will be working together to develop resources to share within our profession.

Mission Statement

Empowering innovation through education, communication and collaboration by connecting autopsy support staff nationwide.

Vision of NAFAT

The vision of the National Association of Forensic Autopsy Technicians is to unite professional autopsy support staff nationwide to open the discussion on best practices, tools of the trade, mental health, and other facets of the job. NAFAT was established to empower autopsy support staff with open communication, professional development, and educational enrichment. It is the vision of the NAFAT Founder that this association will align with N.A.M.E. while catering communicated material directly to autopsy support staff and affiliated members. This may include tools of the trade, standard operations procedures, innovative approaches to difficult cases or any other topic deemed relevant by contributing members. We can provide training and educational opportunities as well, with virtual lectures and outside resources until we are able to meet in person. NAFAT will also offer resources for student or intern members by providing a listing of internships and employment opportunities nationwide.

I hope that, in time, the association will provide pay increases for the underpaid technicians and we can create a certification that reflects our skillset.
